What is ScholarlyNotes
A quick tour of ScholarlyNotes β your workspace for organizing papers, taking connected notes, and drafting research writing in one place.
What is ScholarlyNotes?
ScholarlyNotes is a workspace built for one job: making the day-to-day
work of doing research less scattered. Instead of juggling a reference
manager, a notes app, a word processor, and your inbox, everything from
your reading library to your final draft lives in one place β and stays
connected.
Your library, organized
Add papers, books, and other sources to your Library by hand, or
pull them straight in from OpenAlex through Discover, complete with
abstracts and an AI-generated plain-language summary. Every source gets
a short citation key (like `[@smith2023]`) you can drop into any note
or draft to cite it instantly.
Notes that stay connected to your sources
Write reading notes in Markdown, cite the papers you're drawing on
inline as you go, and attach figures. When you're done, generate a
clean, correctly formatted reference list in APA, MLA, Chicago,
Harvard, IEEE, or Vancouver style β no manual reformatting.
Draft your paper, section by section
The Drafts editor breaks a paper into sections β Abstract,
Introduction, Literature Review, Methodology, Results, Discussion,
Conclusion, and any custom sections you add β tracks a target venue
and deadline, and shows your progress against a word-count target per
section, all while pulling citations from the same library.
Discover what to read next
Search OpenAlex's index of scholarly work, browse an author's other
papers, and surface related work for anything already in your library,
so you're never starting a literature search from zero.
Stay current without checking back
Save a search once, and Digests emails you only the genuinely new
papers that match it β no re-running the same query every week.
